Role of elected officials
Elected officials play a very important role.
They represent the people of Montreal on the municipal council, the executive committee, the borough councils, and the agglomeration council.
The City of Montreal has 103 elected officials.
Among them, 65 sit on the municipal council of the City of Montreal, including:
- the City mayor, who is also the mayor of the Ville-Marie borough;
- 18 borough mayors;
- 46 city councillors.
All elected officials of the City sit on their borough council. Borough councils have at least 5 members.
Elected officials influence the City’s policies and services. They vote on budgets and resolutions that have a direct impact on the City, the boroughs, and the population.
Voting allows electors to choose the elected officials who will represent their interests.
