Who can work for the municipal elections?

Anyone who is age 16 or older can apply for work. At the time of hiring, successful candidates will be required to provide their social insurance number.

People who live outside the City of Montréal can also apply for and hold a position.

When applying, you will need to provide your email address.

What jobs are available?

The job descriptions for election positions are available on this website. The positions available include deputy returning officers, poll clerks and other jobs related to welcoming voters and applying health protection measures.

Many different skills are needed but, for all jobs, it’s important to be able to communicate with voters.

Which days can we work?

For the 2021 general election, advance voting will take place on October 30 and 31. Tabulation of these votes will take place on the evening of November 7. The election days are November 6 and 7. 

The duration of most jobs is two to four days of 12 to 14 hours per day.

How do I apply?

The best way to apply is by submitting an online application. You will have to provide your email address when you apply. You need only provide your social insurance number if and when you are hired.

What happens after I apply?

At the beginning of the election period, recruitment staff may contact you for an interview by video-conference or telephone. Afterwards, you will be informed if a job is available. You will then need to provide your social insurance number.

Personnel selection will begin in mid-September.

Which borough can I work in?

Election staff can work in any Montréal borough

Your postal code will determine which Élections Montréal point of service will process your application. There’s at least one point of service in each borough.

Please note that when applying you must provide a valid and unique email address.  It is not possible to use the same email address as another applicant.

How will the training be provided?

Training required for all election jobs will be offered by Élections Montréal on the web. You will need to have reliable internet access and a device with sound and a microphone. You will have to complete a theoretical training module and participate in a workshop offered by video-conference.

How much does it pay?

Your pay depends on your level of responsibility and the number of hours worked. Compensation is mentioned in each job description.

How will I receive my pay?

When you apply, you will be asked to choose whether you would like a cheque mailed to you or a direct deposit into your bank account. 

If you choose to be paid by direct deposit, you will receive an email shortly after you are hired with instructions on how to submit your banking information. If you fail to follow these instructions or if the information provided is not valid, a cheque will be mailed to you.

Payment for your work at Élections Montréal will be made approximately four weeks after the November 7, 2021 election.
